Destiny- real life or excuses?

Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.

I think Blair Waldorf said it best.  Destiny is something that is inevitable for us all, but how many times have we flipped our hair or shrugged our shoulders and chalked something up to destiny?  On discovering your crush’s favorite band is yours as well- “It’s destiny! We’re meant to be!”.  On blowing an interview- “It’s destiny.  It wouldn’t have worked out anyways”.  Maybe it is destiny, but maybe your favorite band is immensely popular or your interview sucked because you choked.  Which brings me to my point.

Maybe destiny is something that we, twenty-somethings in particular, use as a crutch.  Your early twenties is one of the most crucial times in your life.  You establish who you are as an employee, friend, and romantic interest.  Has destiny become our excuse for not putting in the extra effort?  I’m guilty of this as much as the next gal, but I am tired of blaming destiny for my problems.

So go the extra mile.  If you think something should be a part of your life and your destiny make it happen.  We are one of the best and brightest generations (right?) so take the time to show your mom, your boss, and the world that you can take charge of your life and your choices.  No one else is in charge of your destiny but you.  Now’s the time to show it.
